Hi,
I have a new-to-me 1989 Honda Transalp that I've been using for light commuting.
When in 2nd/3rd gear, if I roll throttle open and then roll off, I hear a noise that sounds like gravel tumbling around in the exhaust. I've checked oil level, no smoke, engine making strong, consistent power, starts easy.

Any advice on how to diagnose would be appreciated.

Hey Kelly, welcome. Take a few minutes and fill in your sig file.

Sounds quite like a loose baffle in the exhaust. If it is the stock exhaust it very likely is the spark arrestor.

Thanks for the reply. I really hope it's in the exhaust and not the engine. I ran outside earlier today, started the bike and rolled the throttle open while in neutral and couldn't replicate the noise. Same with sitting still in first gear.
I'll start with exhaust and go from there.

I'll fill in my sig as well.

Regards.
KC
